Waiting

I wait for the sun
Every day I wait for her
I come to my window
Press the glass for a glimpse
For one blessed ray

I search the spaces between branches
Between leaf and limb
I trace her position behind the gray ceiling
Aching for the slightest delineation
Of light from shadow
I know she is shining
Beyond the clouded expanse she exists
But she cannot reach me
Even she cannot decipher a path through

Squeeze my eyes shut
Concentrate
Then
I think I can remember her fiery touch
How she smoothed my goosebumps with a warm lick
Leaving perspiration
The scent of her breath on my skin
The memory of her kiss bringing life
